Plate thickness

The thickness of SUS316 (equivalent to UNS S31600 or SAE316 in the US) steel plates, which are the material for our images, is 1.5mm. A polishing process is applied to these plates; therefore, they end up thinner at the time of completion. The thickness at completion depends on the condition of plates prior to processing; however, it will approximately be 1.4mm. The thickness of the plate varies with the lot, and the precise difference is not disclosed.

Size and deviation

Standard sizes shown in our price table are approximate dimensions. The actual finishing size may be different from the standard sizes by approximately 1mm.

The following is an explanation for why sizes cannot be exactly the same as standard ones.

Raw material plates have rough surfaces around cut parts, and a single plate may have different finishing condition on different sides; therefore, such plates cannot be delivered to our customers as they are. In order to create a complete product by improving such conditions, plates for Millennium Photos and Stainless Photos are created in larger sizes than finished ones. Their edges are polished following processing to remove surfaces roughness. These processes are carried out manually, and polishing width may vary depending on the condition of the plate edge surfaces; therefore, there is slight difference between the finished sizes of plates.

If a product is to be used for a purpose requiring precise dimensions, we will need as much detail as possible on such a request, so please let us know the acceptable allowance. If there are no specific instructions given, we will create products assuming that differences in external dimensions of approximately 1mm are acceptable. Although it is possible to process card-type products with higher accuracy, this varies depending on the size and the processing method. For details, please contact us.

Hole positioning

The precision of hole positions for fixing products of the double-sided J-shape type, the single-sided J-shaped type, and the double-sided J-shaped frame type is also subject to the abovementioned external sizes. Since these are also manually bent in the process, there is always a certain degree of difference. Please decide the installation position based on the position of holes in the product.

It is possible to position holes for flat type and white frame type products to within a difference ±0.1mm.

Weight

The weight of a finished flat type product is approximately 11.9kg/m2, which will be approximately 0.98kg if the size of the product is 25 × 33cm. These products are slightly heavy. In order to ensure that the product is strong, a thickness of 1.5 mm is required; therefore, at least this weight is necessary. It is recommended to check the maximum load of the wall on which the product is to be placed.

If it is necessary to check the weight of a product other than a flat type one prior to product delivery, please contact us with the product type and size which you are considering. However, since the weight varies depending on the area to be engraved, there is a possibility that there may be a slight difference from that of the actual finished product.

Surface finishing

Since black parts of Millennium Photos and Stainless Photos are in a condition where non-conductive layers which are natural in stainless steel are developed, these parts will normally never peel or wear out. The bases of these parts are polished and shine with a large number of extremely fine lines looking like hair. White parts are the base of the engraved stainless steel. In other words, they are 100% stainless steel because they do not contain any components other than stainless steel. With full-color Stainless Photos, a glass ceramic layer is formed on the stainless steel base material followed by coloring using non-organic pigments. With Brass photos, surfaces are processed using patina finishing and clear coat finishing. In patina finishing, brass is intentionally made to rust to create a barrier layer. In clear coat finishing, strong synthetic resin transparent coating is used to protect the surface.
